The Wilton Method® of Cake Decorating

For 85 years, Wilton have been making it easy for people to create amazing cakes and sweet treats using their tried and tested methods.

The Wilton Method® Courses are the perfect choice, whether you're a complete beginner or want to perfect your decorating skills with buttercream, Royal icing or fondant, these fun and certified courses are for you!

In each course you will learn a variety of techniques using a particular edible medium: Course 1 - Buttercream, Course 2 - Royal Icing, Course 3 - Fondant (sugar paste) and Gum Paste (flower paste). You will be awarded a Certificate of Completion on fullstudentswithcertificatesw1 attendence of each course.

Payment for the course fee can be made in full at the time you make your booking or you can secure your place with a £50 deposit and agree an arrangement to pay the remaining balance that suits your budget.

Wilton Method® Course 1: Building Buttercream Skills - £150 (8 hours)


Classroom SetUp

Wiltoncse-1-Building-Buttercream-Skills22 Learn how to decorate cakes and sweet treats with basic buttercream techniques and six simple to pipe flowers that transform ordinary cakes and cupcakes into extraordinary results.
A perfect introduction to cake decorating and ideal if you would like to learn the basics of piping before attending our Wilton Method Course 2.

Included is a Wilton Course 1 Kit (worth £41.99) containing a workbook and much of the equipment you will use to complete your course.

A materials list will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.

Your Certified Wilton Method Instructor will help you each step of the way, as you learn how easy it can be to:

              • Make buttercream icing the right consistency to decorate
              • Fill and use a decorating bag
              • Level, torte, ice and decorate a cake and other sweet treats with the latest techniques
              • Make six different buttercream icing flowers
              • Pipe lines and make simple borders, letters and shapes on your cake
              • Transfer images to a cake to decorate
              • And much more!

Wilton Method® Course 2: Royal Icing - Flowers & Cake Design - £150 (8 hours)

Learn how to create professional-looking flowers and designs made from royal icing. You will develop core skills to make many varieties of flowers, such as Rosebuds, Pansies, Lilies and The Wilton Rose. You may find it useful to achieve Wilton Method Course 1 to gain some piping skills before enrolling on this course but this is not a requirement.

Included is a Wilton Course 2 Kit (worth £41.99) containing a workbook and much of the equipment you will use to complete your course.

It is a requirement that you already have some basic piping skills or that you achieve Wilton Method Course 1 - Building Buttercream Skills before you atttend this course.

A materials list will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.

This course is perfect for those who would like to learn the basics about Royal Icing before progressing onto our PME Royal Icing Diploma Course.

Your Certified Wilton Method Instructor will help you each step of the way as you learn to:

              • Use royal icing to create eight different types of flowers including The Wilton Rose
              • How to design the colour palette and pattern for a cake
              • Learn piping techniques like basketweave, cornelli lace and brush embroidery
              • Pipe royal icing appliques and additional decorative borders
              • And much more!

Wilton Method® Course 3: Fondant (Sugarpaste) & Gum Paste (Flower Paste - £150 (8 hours)

Learn how to work successfully with fondant and gum paste. From covering your cakes, cutting shapes and painting on fondant to making unwired flowers like Calla Lilies, Roses and Carnations, you will learn all the essentials.

This course is perfect for beginners to sugarcraft who would like to learn the basics before progressing onto our PME Sugarpaste Diploma Course.

Included is a Wilton Course 3 Kit (worth £41.99) containing a workbook and much of the equipment you will use to complete your course.

A materials list will be provided once your booking has been confirmed.

Your Certified Wilton Method Instructor will help you each step of the way as you learn to:

              • Prepare and colour fondant (sugar paste) and gum paste (flower paste)
              • Cover a cake with fondant
              • Create more than 10 different types of bows and flowers, including the Calla Lily, Rose and Carnation
              • Discover how easy it is to paint on fondant
              • Design and complete a cake with the shapes and flowers from the course
              • And much more!
