FAQs

What overnight accommodation would you recommend?

Our most local low cost hotel accommodation is Caterham/Whyteleafe Travel Lodge Hotel which is fine for a short/overnight stay. It is a short train journey / 7 minutes drive from both Kenley station (our Kenley classroom) / Caterham Station (our Caterham Studio). For eating out there are a number of restaurants in Caterham Town Centre which is 2 miles from the hotel but can be reached quickly and easily by car, bus or train. If you are travelling via the M25 to get to us this hotel is 5 minutes drive from Junction 6 (just past Clacket Lane Services). It is also on a direct train route from East Croydon, Clapham Junction, London Bridge or Victoria stations and so is suitable if you are travelling by train from other parts of the UK or flying into Gatwick or Heathrow.

If you would prefer to stay (2 nights or longer) in a private house with double bed accommodation and the facility to self cater or have breakfast provided this is available and situated 10 minutes walk from Caterham Station with easy access to both our Kenley and Caterham Venues by train or taxi (a taxi is recommended if you are carrying a lot of luggage). This accommodation comes highly recommended by students that have attended our courses. For more details about the facilities including prices and how to book please contact our good friend Caroline Knight 07967 876480 / This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Airbnb also offers plenty of low cost, local accommodation options, take a look at the properties that are situated near Kenley, Caterham, Purley or East Croydon Stations or near the 434 or 407 bus route. If you wish stay a bit more central to Croydon where there are shopping centres, supermarkets and places to eat Premier Inn London Croydon Town Centre and Easy Hotel Croydon are both a short walking distance to East Croydon Station. By train, it would take 15 minutes to get to Kenley/Caterham Station and on a fast train to London Bridge/Victoria station about 20 minutes.

If you are staying with a friend or relative or have found some accommodation options but are not sure how close they are to our school venues please feel free to contact us, we will be happy to take a look at the details for you.

What happens when there are bad weather conditions?

In the event of unfavourable weather conditions in our area, Inspired Creations will make the decision to cancel, by the latest 1 hour before the start time of the class, if we consider it unsafe to access the local main roads surrounding our classrooms in Kenley or Caterham we will send you an email and try to send you a text. If you need to begin your journey sooner and are unsure if the class will run, please call Hannah Collison: 01883 340529 / 07963 717063 before you set off.

If you are attending a regular weekly class or a multiple day workshop that has already begun, a 'catch up' date will be arranged or extra time will be added to the remaining class dates that course.

If you are booked onto a workshop that has not yet started and Inspired Creations make the decision to cancel the class we will offer students either the option to transfer to an alternative date, a transfer to a different course or to receive a full refund.

If our classes are unaffected by bad weather but you are unable to attend a course because of the conditions local to you, unfortunately we will not be able to offer an alternative date or refund.

Please note that travel and accommodation expenses will not be compensated for should Inspired Creations need to cancel, offer a 'catch up date' or re-arrange a course date. Please ensure you have adequate travel and cancellation insurance cover.

What should I wear to my course?

We advise comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe, non-slip shoes (no open-toed sandals please). If you have an apron then it’s a good idea to bring it along to protect your clothes, and long hair should be tied back. We advise that cardigans and jumpers should not be worn as loose fibres can spoil your work. Long finger nails and nail varnish are not recommended.

What happens if I have paid and need to cancel my place?

We do have a Cancellation Policy. This is explained in our Cancellation Policy page.

What happens if Inspired Creations cancel a class/course?

This is explained in our Cancellation Policy page.

What do I do about lunch? Will there be a break?

For our regular 2 hour courses we offer complimentary tea & coffee which you are welcome to enjoy during your class. For our One Day Workshops we offer complimentary tea & coffee throughout the day. You will also have up to a 35 minute break for lunch. You can bring a packed lunch with you and store it in our fridge, we have microwaves for any food that needs to be heated. We do have shops a 5 minute car drive away (1 minute walk if at our Kenley venue) but it is recommended you purchase and bring your food with you in the morning.

I would rather have a private one-to-one class, is this possible?

Yes. We offer individual tuition for sugarcrafters of every level, from bakers wanting to learn about commercial cake decorating to professionals needing an intensive course. The tuition is tailored to student requirements, whether this is brushing up on existing skills, learning new skills or requiring help with a particular cake. Contact Us

I want to learn something specific, do you do bespoke courses?

Yes we do. Contact us to discuss what you would like to learn and we will match you up with a suitable tutor and design a course for you.

How many other students will be in my class?

Class sizes range from 6 to 11 students. We do cater for larger groups especially for our Corporate Events & Parties, these would need to be at an alternative suitable venue selected by you. Please contact us for more details.

What is a suitable venue?

When selecting a venue you will need to check that they have tables/surfaces and chairs for the number in your group. We need access to a clean kitchen area with fridge space, freezer space (for chocolate work) and hot running water. Our setting up time is a 30 minutes before the start time and we need 30 minutes to clean and tidy up at the end. If your preferred venue is outside our designated area it would be a good idea to contact us before booking and paying for your venue as there may be an additional charge for our travelling time.

When does the day start and finish?

Most of our regular daytime classes start at 10.00am and finish at 12 noon and our regular evening classes are from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. Our One Day Courses finish around 4.15pm. You can arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for you to unpack, make yourself a hot drink, meet your fellow classmates and tutor before the class begins.

Do you do courses for children?

Yes we do, Inspired Creations offer workshops for children aged 8+ in the school holiday times, click here for more details. We also run Character Modelling Parties for Children aged 6+. Those aged 16 years and above may attend our adult range of classes.

I have an allergy; can I still come on a course?

Please contact us with your specific requirements/circumstances and we will advise you as to how we can best assist.

Does the course fee include materials and equipment?

Some of our courses include everything, but on others you may need to bring additional equipment, materials or ingredients.  In those cases we will send you a kit list by email once you have paid for your course and your booking has been confirmed. You are welcome to borrow our basic kit tools within any of our classes.
