Courses for Beginners

The courses listed below are suitable for anyone who is fairly new to the craft and looking to learn the essential beginner level skills. They are also suitable for those who already have some skills that they wish to hone or enhance. We offer classes in cake baking, cake decorating and working with chocolate. They are listed in date order. If you would like some help working out where you should begin please feel free to contact us.

If you are not local or are unable to attend evening classes, we offer our Beginner Level Courses as one, two and four Day Workshops', these are scheduled throughout the year; during the weekdays, at the weekends, inside and outside of school holidays. If you have specific dates in mind or you prefer to learn on a 'one to one' basis, private tuition is also available.

To find out the price, choose the date of the course you are interested in and click the 'more info' button. Payment for the course fee can be made in full at the time that you make your booking or you can secure your place with a £50 deposit (unless otherwise stated) and agree an arrangement to pay the remaining balance that suits your monthly budget the final monthly installment is payable by 30 days before the start date of the course. Places on each course are limited to 8 students.

This short course is perfect if you are a complete beginner or are self taught, fairly new to the craft and just want to learn the basics.

On this certificate course you will learn, practice and develop essential beginner level skills that you need when covering cakes, modelling characters, making sugar flowers and working with buttercream. Once you have attended this course you can feel confident that you have the basic skills to achieve some of our other advertised classes.

The PME Sugarpaste Skills Diploma is an Internationally recognised Certificate course packed full of everything you need to know about working with sugarpaste to professionally cover cakes and make cake decorations.

If you are self taught or fairly new to cake decorating this 4 day intensive course is an ideal way to get to grips with cake covering skills and working with sugarpaste. This course is FAST PACED! If you are completely new to cake decorating, it may help if you have some experience using sugarpaste before you attend. Our one day beginner level workshops 'Introduction to Sponge Cake Covering & Character Modelling Skills' or 'The Wilton Method - Course 3 - Gum Paste & Fondant' will teach you the basics, although this is not a requirement.

You will have free use of all our equipment, such as turntable, rolling pin etc. You will also receive a complimentary Course Kit (worth approx. £49) containing a workbook and all the other equipment you require to complete the course.We do ask that you supply your own materials such as marzipan, sugarpaste, boxes, boards etc. A list is emailed to you once you have made your booking, as an estimate these items will total about £45. In addition you will need a particular size fruit cake, two sponge cakes and a quantity of buttercream, recipes will be provided. If you prefer and for your convenience, you can 'pre-order' from our 'on-site' shop and receive 10% off your purchases, everything is then placed into our classroom ready for your first lesson. For all our classes, we recommend that you bring a notebook, pen and a camera to your lessons, you will also need to bring your lunch each day as food is not provided.
